‘Starchitect’ Frank Gehry’s, Ground Zero Arts Center has been given the green light after months of wrangling between politicians and New York officials.

The stunning looking 1000-seat performing arts theater, will be housed on the originally planned site and the city is expected to release the $50 million needed to get the site’s foundations underway.

The project will cost around $500 million in total but, as we all know, expect that ‘guesstimate’ to rise as the project gets underway.

Sure it looks like something your kid could construct with his building blocks and light-boxes but it’s definitely a striking looking building, or is that series of buildings?

The only problem now is that the original delays have meant that the site is currently occupied by the temporary World Trade Center PATH station. And until architect Santiago Calatrava’s permanent station to the south is completed, nothing will start until at least 2014. Throw in some construction delays – think 2015.

Doubters claim it may never be built at all. What’s your take?
