Treehotel Opens For Big Kids

Building tree houses was great fun as a kid which is why the opening of the Treehotel in Sweden will appeal to every kid that ever stole their Dad’s hammer to nail planks of wood into the branches of the family tree. The higher up the better.

The unique Treehotel comprises four-architect designed modules, each very different, that hang suspended high up in the trees in a forest outside the town of Harads.

Above you can see the Mirrorcube, a stunningly effective piece of design that disguises its presence in the woods by reflecting the surrounding trees, sky and wildlife from every surface.

There are great shots of it  - and some others – after the jump.

It measures 4 meters square and is suspended up to 6 meters off the ground. It sleeps 2-4 people with two rooms, seven windows for light, a roof terrace, under-floor heating, eco-friendly incineration toilet and kitchenette.

There’s also The Cabin, The Blue Cone, and The Nest, with two others – The UFO and Room With A View – set to open next month. Another 20 are planned over the next five years.

The Treehotel is the brainchild of owners and husband and wife team, Kent and Britta Lindvall, who are hoping the get-back-to-nature theme of the Treehotel will attract the kind of guest that doesn’t mind splashing out a bit extra for the unusual.

At about $465 a night, it might be a bit steep for those hoping to reconnect with their tree house youth. Still, it’s a stunning use of design in nature. See more shots below.
